Hachi
Redesign the movie poster of Hachi and use illustration as the main visual content. Use the same elements to design at least two peripherals.
Task
I redesign the poster of Hachi in the form of illustration. Time is an essential concept in the movie since Hachi spent almost his whole life waiting for Parker. So I used the clock face as the main visual element of the design. Inside the clock is Parker walking home with Hachi, their shadows and body shapes overlap to form a time. At the same time, the snow on the clock face represents the night of Hachi's death. The reunion of the man and the dog in the clock suggests their meeting in the afterlife.
Project Brief
When designing peripherals, I wanted to create something that was fun and environmental-friendly, something that would last forever.
As I mentioned before, time is an essential concept in the movie since Hachi spent almost his whole life waiting for Parker. I got inspired by this idea and decided to use watches as the peripheral. There are two different versions of the watch, both are expressing a quiet and elegant feeling.
Besides, inspired by the famous Calpis bottle, I designed two glass bottles that present the reunion scene between Hachi and Parker. In the left image, both Hachi and the movie name are printed on the bottle's front side. When the consumer finishes drinking the drink, Parker's face is revealed on the back. Also, since the bottles are made of glass, they can be reused and filled with different coloured drinks without affecting the visual elements.
